University Choir and Orchestra of William Jessup University

The UCO is Dying

The picture above of the UCO is a blast from the past. A bygone day when I had a lot of students. Now, it’s just a glorified choir. It’s not even a full orchestra because the attrition rate – due to my inept leadership – has seen my instrumental students dwindle from fifteen to just five. I have my favorite students just like any teacher. The difference is the fact that I go out of my way to show favoritism. I suppose the majority of students who left this past semester just got tired of the bulls***.

I know that I work at a Christian university and there are many students and financial supporters that expect the music performed by the UCO to reflect those values, but I just like the secular stuff. It makes my blood pump faster and gets me excited. But don’t worry, I make sure to get a set of Christian songs in at Christmas, but other than that, it’s nothing but secular music at a Christian university the rest of the time.
